A downloadable fangame for Windows

An Earthbound fangame where you defeat as many enemies as you can manage as Ness. There are twelve types of enemies which cycle in or cycle out every 10 enemies defeated depending on if there's room for more enemy types. When an enemy cycles out one last surge of them is spawned in - watch out!

Every 50 enemies defeated things escalate. Max enemies goes up by one, Max enemy types (max of eight) goes up by one, the surge size (max of 10) goes up by one. It can get pretty hairy but you can always survive even if you take fatal damage so long as you can get a present before your health rolls down to zero.

Ness's Attacks

The Bat hits enemies hard and knocks them back a lot. It can also hit baseballs back and generates PSI per hit, it’s Ness’s main attack!

Yoyos are Ness's  main ranged option. You can throw up to three at once and they’ll come back to you hitting enemies along the way and restoring some PSI too. Good for interrupting and hindering enemies. Throw multiple in the same direction and they’ll spread out nicely.

PK Flash is a strong AOE crowd control option. For the cost of 50 PSI you can guide it anywhere on the field and it’ll do solid damage and make enemies feel strange. Strange enemies will spin in circles and take double damage from the next attack. That’s enough to kill any enemy with the bat! Use this when you can safely! Use this to clear big clumped up groups!

Enemy Types

(Starting Enemies)
Cultist: The most basic enemy. Wanders around and occasionally charges at you. Crow: Flies left and right in quick sweeping passes. Dies to a single bat hit

(Early Game Enemies, Start Appearing Before 100)
Pitcher: Wanders evasively and throws baseballs at you. Extra vulnerable to hit back balls
Bear: Big persistent enemy. Slowly approaches relatively relentlessly. Jumps to you if far away
Trash Can: Hides in plain sight until provoked, charges high speed at you bouncing off walls
Cranky Lady: Acts in unison with other Cranky Ladies. They jump to your location as a group
Guitar: Wanders and (after interruptible charge up) fires three notes in an orthogonal direction

(Late Game Enemies, Start Appearing After 100)
Balding Eagle: A bigger tougher bird. Sweeps left and right more at a more severe angle
Mimic: When you get too close it’ll spring into action running at you. Simple enemy really
Car: Drives at you in orthogonal directions sliding into the turns. Tough piece of metal!
UFO: Sweeps across the screen dropping lightning balls in its wake. Very low health though!
Starman: Teleports randomly and casts huge PK Freezes in your direction. Very interruptible!

Project Background

This is my first Godot project. I wanted to make something that I could get done in about a month and so decided to remake a fangame I made in Java way back for a high school assignment around 2008. That thing was impressive for being made in what was little for loop but this is much more elaborate, has many more enemies, more of an ebb/flow to how it plays out, it's significantly better and I'm happy it now exists considering the original was lost to time.

I hope you enjoy it. It's a bit of a fun and, again, I'm happy that it exists once more. Also also seriously learned a lot about Godot making it so served that purpose as well. Very happy overall with this!
